The Exemplary Women of Early China: The Lienü Zhuan of Liu Xiang by Anne Behnke Kinney is the newest complete English version of Liu Xiang’s Lienü Zhuan. This translation comprehensively employs various thick translation strategies, featuring rich and meticulous annotations as well as paratexts. By examining both intra-textual and extra-textual dimensions, it is evident that Kinney added bracketed annotations and endnotes within the main text to alleviate readers’ comprehension barriers and deepen their understanding of Chinese history and culture.
