Ca3Co409/Nb-SrTiO3 heterojunction with good rectifying behavior at room temperature was fabricated by growing a layer of Ca3Co409 film on the lwt% Nb-doped SrTiO3 substrate by means of the chemical solution deposition technique. A large open-circuit voltage signal with the response time of tens of nanosecond was observed at room temperature when the Ca3Co409 layer of the heterojunction was illuminated under the 308 nm irradiation and no voltage signal was detected under the 10.6 gun irradiation. A mechanism based on the photovoltaic effect of a p-n junction was proposed to explain the experimental results. The present work shows a great potential of this new heterojunction as photoelectric devices.

Three Bi2Sr2Co2Oy thin films with different microstructures have been prepared by chemical solution deposition on LaAlO 3(001) through varying the annealing temperature. With the decrease in the annealing temperature, both the size and c-axis alignment degree of grains in the film decrease as well, leading to an increase in the film resistivity. In addition, the decrease in the annealing temperature also results in a slight increase in the Seebeck coefficient due to the enhanced energy filtering effect of the small-grain film. The nanostructured Bi2Sr2Co2Oy film with an average grain size of about 100 nm shows a power factor comparable to that of films with larger grains.Since the thermal conductivity of the nanostructured films can be depressed due to the enhanced phonon scattering by grain boundary,a higher figure of merit is expected in Bi2Sr2Co2Oy thin film with grains in nanometer size.
High-temperature thermoelectric transport property measurements have been performed on the highly c-axis oriented Bi2Sr2Co20v thin films prepared by pulsed laser deposition on LaA1Oa (001). Both the electric resistivity p and the seebeck coefficient S of the film exhibit an increasing trend with the temperature from 300 K-1000 K and reach up to 4.8 m. cm and 202 V/K at 980 K, resulting in a power factor of 0.85 mW/mK which are comparable to those of the single crystalline samples. A small polaron hopping conduction can be responsible for the conduction mechanism of the film at high temperature. The results demonstrate that the Bi2Sr2Co2Oy thin film has potential application has high temperature thin film thermoelectric devices,
Laser-induced voltage effects in c-axis oriented Ca3Co4O9 thin films have been studied with samples fabricated on 10°tilted LaAIO3 (001) substrates by a simple chemical solution deposition method. An open-circuit voltage with a rise time of about 10 ns and full width at half maximum of about 28 ns is detected when the film surface is irradiated by a 308-nm laser pulse with a duration of 25 ns. Besides, opemcircuit voltage signals are also observed when the film surface is irradiated separately by the laser pulses of 532 nm and 1064 nm. The results indicate that Ca3Co4O9 thin films have a great potential application in the wide range photodetctor from the ultraviolet to near infrared regions.
Varying the film thickness is a precise route to tune the interfacial strain to manipulate the properties of the multiferroic materials. Here,to explore the effects of the interfacial strain on the properties of the multiferroic BiFeO_3films,we investigated thickness-dependent structural and polarization evolutions of the BiFeO_3 films. The epitaxial growth with an atomic stacking sequence of BiO/TiO_2 at the interface was confirmed by scanning transmission electron microscopy.Combining X-ray diffraction experiments and first-principles calculations,a thickness-dependent structural evolution was observed from a fully strained tetragonality to a partially relaxed one without any structural phase transition or rotated twins. The tetragonality(c/a) of the BiFeO_3 films increases as the film thickness decreases, while the polarization is in contrast with this trend, and the size effect including the depolarization field plays a crucial role in this contradiction in thinner films. These findings offer an alternative strategy to manipulate structural and polarization properties by tuning the interfacial strain in epitaxial multiferroic thin films.
