The book Oracle Bones from Locus East of Yinxu Huayuanzhuang is a collection of unearthed oracle bones in the form of excavation report. It initiated a new mode for the compilation of oracle bones by comparing fully showing and detail enlarging photos with rubbings and drawings. Meanwhile, it combines illustrations with concise and to the point descriptions, indexes and tortoise-bone identifications, and maximally provides the reader with literal information on oracle bones. The work clarifies the incorrect understanding of the so-called “non-royal oracle bones” in academic circles, puts forward amendments to some improper methods in oracle bone dating, and advances the study of the family pattern in the Shang period.
